Love’s Faithful Promise by Susan Mason – a review

Riveting!

Love’s Faithful Promise is Book 3 in the Courage to Dream series by Susan Anne Mason. In this novel, there are two stories presented: that of Deirdre O’Leary and Matthew Clayborn, and Connor O’Leary and Josephine Miller.

When Deirdre O’Leary’s mother has a stroke, she is driven to find the best help for her mother. A nurse aspiring to become a doctor in the early 20th Century, Deirdre knows that her mother needs the best of help for her recovery. Deirdre takes on the task of traveling to Canada to convince widowed Doctor Matthew Clayborn to help her mother.

Matthew Clayborn is a widowed father to a young daughter. His loveless marriage left him with feeling like a failure. Driven to his work and taking care of his daughter, nothing else is important to Matthew.

When Deirdre asks for his help, Matthew turns her down. However, when his own daughter has a need presenting itself, Matthew accepts the challenge. He travels along with his daughter to the farm where the O’Learys live to help his daughter and Deirdre’s mother.

Josephine Miller arrives at the farm disguised as a farm hand. Her family situation is poor–her father an alcoholic. When Connor finds out the truth, he does everything that he can to try to make the situation better.

I haven’t read the other two books in this series, but after reading Love’s Faithful Promise, I’m going to have to buy the other two. Additionally, though, I’ll inform you that this is a stand-alone novel. You can understand what is going on without having read the other two novels in the series.

Susan’s writing is wonderful, and I was very disappointed when the story came to an end. Character development is fantastic, and the scenes and situations are entertaining and creative. If you enjoy Christian historical fiction, give Love’s Faithful Promise your time!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bethany House Publishers!
