Dangerous Love – Sweet Valley High Review

Throwback Books Jami's Words
Throwback Books is a theme centered around books in a series from a decade or more ago. To join TBB, choose a throwback series (for example, The Hardy Boys) and have fun reliving the past! Don’t forget to link back to A Simply Enchanted Life and Jami’s Words.

Elizabeth Wakefield has never had a problem with rules. But when Todd gets a new motorcycle, Liz is torn. Her parents have forbidden her from ever getting on a bike. But everyone else is ecstatic over Todd’s new ride—especially the girls. As her jealousy threatens to consume her, Liz has a big decision to make—either put her trust in Todd’s love, or break the rules and take the ride of her life.

  • Series: Sweet Valley High (Book 6)
  • Mass Market Paperback: 153 pages
  • Publisher: Laurel Leaf (December 23, 2008)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0440422744
  • ISBN-13: 978-0440422747

I admit that I was pleasantly surprised that the drama revolved around Elizabeth Wakefield this time, instead of her heinously sneaky and devious twin sister Jessica.

Elizabeth and Todd have been dating for quite a while now, and when Todd finally fulfills his dream of having a motorcycle, Elizabeth nearly goes into a panic attack. A cousin of hers once died in a motorcycle accident, and Elizabeth’s parents have absolutely forbade her from EVER perching her derriere on one. Can’t say I blame them.

Elizabeth, though, can’t stand seeing Todd giving girls rides on his bike. Jealousy burns. She imagines that Todd will choose a girl who is allowed to ride on his bike and tell Elizabeth to take a hike. She succumbs to her fear and decides to go on a ride with Todd when Jessica doesn’t show up to pick her up after her best friend Enid’s 16th birthday bash.

Knowing that her parents would never approve BUT also promising herself that she would NEVER ride on his motorcycle again, she goes against their wishes and hops on.

And of course drama unfolds.

What I loved about this book was the fact that even though there are a few descriptions that reveal the age of the book, the story idea is timeless and relevant. Drunken crashes, teens deviating, jealous love—all three encompassing lessons to learn from.

Dangerous Love was far more pleasant to read than some of the other ones I’ve read so far. I look forward to seeing how Elizabeth fares in the next book, Dear Sister.

Can Jessica live without Elizabeth?
Sweet Valley is stunned by the news: beautiful young Elizabeth Wakefield is in a coma after a terrible motorcycle accident. Everyone waits with bated breath for any change in her condition, especially Elizabeth’s boyfriend Todd, who was driving when accident happened.
But there is no one more upset than Elizabeth’s twin, Jessica. She keeps watch over unconscious body of her sister, desperately hoping she’ll recover. What if Elizabeth never wakes up? Or worse…what if Elizabeth wakes up changed?
