The Art of Losing Yourself by Katie Ganshert

The Art of Losing Yourself

Moving, Powerful, Vivid!

This novel, hands down, has been one of the most moving and real novels I’ve ever read.

Touching on real-life problems, like infertility and pregnancy loss, alcoholism, teen issues, marital problems, dementia . . . The Art of Losing Yourself is a book that will leave you feeling like you’ve met some people with real issues who are able to get through them, with the help of one another and their Maker.

First and foremost, I love reading books like these, but I often feel depressed for weeks on end or at least end up using several tissues throughout the book. It’s why I often don’t read them. For me, life has enough real life issues in them–and by all means, don’t end a series by killing off characters, please! (I have a pet peeve with authors who do that–sorry to bombard you with my diatribe.)

Katie put soul into this novel. You can feel the troubles that the characters have–their passion, anguish, lack of faith, determination, and persistence is almost tangible. The storyline flows very well, and it is uniquely written in first person by TWO characters acting in First Person POV. Katie did an excellent job flowing from one to the other without any confusion for me, and most importantly, without confusing the characters’ points of view.

What I really liked about the end of this book was that there was hope in the ending. It wasn’t a typical cheery end of novel wrap-up like you ordinarily find, but there was the essence of hope there, which is totally appreciated by me. It kind of also had an open-ended feel, as if maybe Katie’s going to continue the saga? Hint, hint, dear Katie!

I highly, highly recommend this book. This is a book that I can imagine would have been on Oprah’s show as one of her summer picks. Seriously, read it. You can thank me later. 🙂

I too loved this book! Katie did an excellent job of researching so many different subject areas for this novel…I think she left no stone unturned!
